TailFeathers

Hello everyone,

I'm new to breeding, specially canaries. I love birds and will begin breeding zebra finches and canaries very soon. I hope to gain a wealth of knowledge by speaking with my friends in the great country of Australia. I reside in northern USA; in Michigan, we are surrounded by the worlds largest fresh water supply stemming from the Great Lakes. Our climate is boiling hot and humid in the summer.... Believe me when I say hot, I traveled to India and Indonesia and our weather faired worse in the summer.... And we have bitter cold winters.

I hope that information is relevant since the climate in the north perm hemisphere is a bit different from the Southern Hemisphere.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Thank you

Hi there, Tailfeathers and welcome :)
In what region of the USA do you live? The climate can vary greatly.

I'm currently cage breeding. I will attempt to save money and build both indoor and outdoor aviaries soon.

Welcome tail-feathers - you're not a native American by any chance with a name like that? I visited Cornel University about 10 years ago during the thaw and again about 5 years ago in the Fall and I'll agree it's beautiful around the Great Lakes however stories of 3-4 m snow drifts against the house every winter made me wonder if it's worth it! I presume you'll have a nice heated and well-lit bird-room to over-winter your stock in but otherwise I cant see any problem with out-door aviaries. Its exciting to set off on an adventure you're passionate about and have the resources to support it.
