Hi Mate the best stuff is Moxidectin

Worms them and kills air sac mites in one dose 5 ml per litre

You can get it from the vet on welshpool road opposite the bird fish place in welshpool

Message me if you want I may be able to help you

I have treated mine in breeding season with this and I have no probs at all

In fact I have had over 40 young this year so far from 5 pairs... so it does not worry them

From memory its about $32 for about 150ml

Hey guys,
My name is Josh and although I dont own birds I need some advice on helping a mate who does so I thought I may be able to get that here.
I have a mate with heaps of finches (Gouldians and a few other species) and Canarys.
They all have air sac mite and I have some Ivermectin he can use but I'm not sure of the dosage rate.
The Ivermectin I have was sold to me re-bottled so im not sure of the brand, it was sold to me to be used on rabbits and rodents at the dosage rate of 0.1ml per Kg
Can anyone please advise me of the correct dosage rats for his birds?
Thanks Josh

If you read through the previous pages in this topic there are a lot comments regarding both Moxidectin and Ivermectin.
As you said you dont have the brand of the Ivermectin with the correct doseage.
If they were my birds I would be buying some new worming product specifically for birds and using the recommended dosage on the bottle.

Thanks for the reply.
I was hoping that someone who has used Ivermectin for both Finches and rodents/rabbits would know the difference in dosage rates so I can use what I have.
I cannot find Moxidectin anywhere and this is the only source of Ivermectin I can get without buying it in 1lt amounts.
I have since spoken to a pet shop who specialises in birds and they have said the Ivermectin I have is fine to use undiluted and to give them one drop with an eye dropper on the nape of their neck, does that sound like sound advice>?

Thanks Josh

Ive only ever used an Aristopet product cant remember the name now, that was when I first started with finches. I now use Moxidectin plus.
I do know that with the Moxidectin the drop on the neck doesn't do tapeworm, I dont know about Ivermectin

Ok well thanks for your input, I will discuss everything with my mate and he can act from there, personally I think Moxidectin seems to be the way to go so hopefully I can persuade him to order some in.
He isnt really the forum type but I am going to strongly recommend to him that he joins this one as I know how much good forums have helped me with reptiles and rodents.

Thanks again

Josh

Young are very susceptible and can get it from their parents (who are themselves showing no symptoms). Moxydectin plus regularly (2-3 times a year) is the only way to go once it's in your flights - and make sure you don't sell any birds until you've cleaned it up. My vet recommended a dose then a second dose a fortnight later then twice yearly.
