Breeding Blue Gouldian - are they really that weak?

From what I have read about the Blue Gouldian, it is inherently a sickly bird. However, I suspect that the internet documentation is simply a rehash of previous comments from years ago. Surely after this amount of time breeding Blues and strengthening them through breeding with strong normals, there are strains of Blues that are strong, do not need medication and can breed Blue to Blue?? What is the experience overseas - do their Blues need medication and easily drop off the perch too?
