Mixed up male

This guys beak has continued to darken, and now looks exactly like a hens.

I was thinking that whatever triggers a hens beaks to darken in breeding season might also be at work with this bird.
Some sort of genetic malfunction perhaps.

Other than the dark beak he seems in perfect health and doing his job well, I expect his five young to fledge in the next three or four days.
I will take another photo and post to show the difference in his beak.
