My last PB male cost me $400 but then I scored a silver hen for less than that.
You gotta keep up the treatments though, I seem to have fatalities just start of change of weather warm-cool and wet, probably coccidiosis but Im not really sure.

Prices are coming down..Its a good sign for finchos wanting a crack at the blues.

I agree with mackstaa on the pairings.
As macktaaa said about the breeder already having good birds picked out for you if I was in your place I would be guided by the breeder you are buying from, hes obviously doing things right.
Just so you have fair warning..........We will want pics of the new arrivals.

While they are attractive are they worth the risk
Many very experienced breeders have failed and just as many if not more are just trying to hold numbers.
Unless you have the set up, expertise and capitol have a real think about outlaying that amount of money.
Remember if they were easy to breed then they would be the same price as Aust. Yellows I guess.

On an American dealer's sight they are advertising blues for $140 each & normals for $65 each, so I guess they are finding them a little easier to breed than we are at the moment.

They house them all inside.
Our greens sell for $25 here.. Only time will bring the 2 prices closer, same with other species that were once unaffordable by most of us.

I was mucking about in the cages and this photo are two of this years young. A split and a blue both siblings. The blues were first bred some 19 years ago In Australia by the Lowes and they are still not a very strong mutation today. So I cant see the price of them coming down anytime soon but we as breeders are working hard to strenghten this mutation. I also agree with E orix's comments on being prepared to loose a few birds and the finacial loss involved when it happens. I am yet to meet a bird breeder who hasn't lost birds at one time or another over the years they keep them for various reason. Thats what keeps this hobby interesting and challenging.
