nearly killed myself getting this shot.

At my parents there are goldfinches nesting and I thought this was one of them.

As I climbed the peach tree I found what I think are baby bul buls.

Enjoy.

Have you seen or heard them in the area?
They could be bulbuls because blackbirds would not nest so high imo.

Unfortunately, they don't belong in the wild in Australia so I reckon you would be doning the environment a favour by catching the parents, bringing the young into an aviary with them then keep them in aviculture.

Actually, quietened down, these birds are lovely aviary birds as I'm sure you already know :)

Definately Bul Bul, with a mouth that big.
I beleive all birds belong in the Australian Bush But not Mynahs Or Starlings.

Hi Steve,
I'm not sure that they're bulbuls, my nestlings had black skin all over.
By now, they will have funny little crests if they are bulbuls.
The nest looks good for a bulbul nest, though.

You're certainly in the right area for bulbuls; I have seen them in inner Wollongong often, several times just near the hospital (trees near the new dapto rd. roundabout).

Let us know if you find out for sure,
Cheers,
Matt.

Elforoz,

Peach tree? Had exactly the same in my peach tree 4 years ago, then the currawongs came in. No more. The pricks watched for 2 weeks then fed. Ah, nature I suppose. They are Bul Buls. Nearly decided to pull one from the nest and hand raise. Made the positive decision, got the wombaroos insectivore mix and all other stuff needed. Went to do the biz, all gone! Think that someone is trying to tell me something.

On the other hand will probably be howled down here but would try for a hand raised Myna or even a Starling if I found a live nestling on the deck. Thats just me.

Ken.

Yeh it was nectarine tree (same thing).

Dad said a butcher bird was watching. I went ti check last week as they would have been ready to fledge.

No chicks and the nest was destroyed so hopefully they flew away.
