The lesser redbrow was the last specie i specialised in before the WB crimson. I had great success with them before moving them on.
I bred about 50 of them but have not heard of others breeding them or seen advert for sale. In my opinion they are very easy to breed probably as easy as zebs and a lot easier to breed than the nominate redbrow, with little extra supplied for them as any other finch i have bred.
Easily sexed by the black under tail coverts on the cock, hens have light grey.
So where have they gone,is anyone breeding them? Craig

Some advertised in the latest Hunter Valley Finch club magazine the "Finch Fancier".

The fella is a member here. Price in the latest price guide indicates $300/pair.

Hi Gary, no gomer sourced his own from GMac as did l. GMac bred probably hundreds of them from a few different bloodlines and spread them around Aus so you would think lessers would be a more common specie.
In the last pic,the hen birds back had a red infusion coming through the chrome yellow and in the sun it looked red, imo they are beautiful birds but there is not much interest in them for some reason. Craig

I've been under the impression they're really hard to breed, not entirely sure why. Anything particularly out of the ordinary they need to breed?

Fantastic looking bird.

I think the problem is they resemble the more common and cheaper 10 dollar birds. We know the difference but most casual birds keepers wouldn't.

I have a flock of the regular red brow that fly to my aviaries daily. I think they are a nice bird but lessers have better colour imo.

I have one or two on the perch. The aviary bank I housed them in this season has had a very harsh winter with cold northern winds blowing in.
