G'day,
Looking at their native range cold climates make sense but I also recall seeing large numbers near Townsville in summer. Wonder if they move north for the warmth. Once I get established might look at branching out to these birds as well. Love the plum colours and the stripes.

National Parks reckon they are along the river here in Dubbo . Gets cold here too . Ive looked and looked for them however darting through the branches its hard to tell a Plumhead from a Sparrow at a distance.
Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

No they are not.
In the ACT (just to make you jealous) there are only 3 licensed finches!! double bar, redbrow and diamond.
That's because they are the only finches found in the ACT

Jayburd - I notice your Canberra club has a finch sale. How do NSW breeders go about selling/buying species that require a licence in NSW at your sale? Or does everyone just avoid interstate trade in their state's licenced birds? And how is this import/export mess dealt with at other interstate sales?
you still need to use your licence if its interstate , I'm not sure what you do with the book work though.

Thanks Nathan - I understand you use your licence.
I'm wondering about import/export licence issues. I've never traded licenced birds interstate and the issue seems problematic for sales where the other party is unknown in advance (and imp/exp licence takes in excess of 2 weeks to obtain). Perhaps the club can act as the purchaser/seller so a licence can be obtained in advance?

that's a very good question... I've never really thought about it. I suppose you just bring your birds to be sold, because they don't need a license, and they explain it to the authorities....

No doubt that'd be fine in terms of the ACT side of the transaction, but on the NSW side, to comply with NSW regulations my understanding is the seller/buyer requires a NSW imp/exp licence? Surely there must be a simpler explanation?
