So, I have a 9 sq m finch avairy, heavily planted, lots of long grass etc. Looks good. Hmmm, maybe some King Quail for the bottom. Cool little birds, I'll buy a pair.....

So now i have HEAPS of King Quail and need to catch some (ideally all but the original pair) without ripping up all the grass clumps & undergrowth.

Any tricks?
I knew it would happen, just not so soon.

Food in a cage, door set up to activate by string method, sit with string in hand ready to close off quail escape route and wait for quail to enter cage.

we catch my quails by putting left over maggots in the same spot each morning. the quails get used to this so there waiting to be fed so you can grab them.

When I use a budgie cage as a trap, I tie a few fishing sinkers on the door to help it drop quickly when i release the string (fishing line).
