Hi,

We're back with our first newsletter of 2021! We hope all of our members had a pleasant holiday season and productive first month of the new year.

We're now entering my favourite time of the finch breeder's calendar—Gouldian breeding season! The cooler and wetter weather we've had this summer should make it a fantastic year for the Gouldians. Some breeders are reporting their birds are already fledging chicks.

On the forum, things have been a little bit quiet; but we have had some really great (and uncommon) additions to our classifieds section in recent days.

We've also added two new offers to our Member Deals page. If you need bird supplies—or even stuff for other pets—it's definitely worth checking out.

Lastly, the Aussie Finch Forum Instagram page has recently soared past 500 followers!

Aberdeen Finch

The aberdeen finch—known commonly as the red-headed finch outside of Australia—is a medium-sized finch found throughout southern Africa. The species is extremely rare in Australian aviaries, with many of the remaining stock thought to be hybridized with the closely-related and more common cut-throat finch.

An update on the blue rainbow lorikeet mutation

Five years ago, a striking blue mutation of the rainbow lorikeet was produced by an Aussie breeder. There was only a single blue rainbow lorikeet in existence when we wrote our first blog post about it, but in the years since, efforts to establish this mutation have proved successful.
