New to softbills? Superb Fairy-wrens are a great introductory species |
|
There’s a natural progression that many finch keepers follow: First, they start with the hardy “seed and water” species such as Zebra finches and Emblemas. These are followed by slightly more up-market birds like Gouldians and Star Finches. Eventually, their aviary becomes home to semi-insectivorous species like cordons and siskins.
This journey eventually brings the finch keeper to the holy grail of mixed aviary species—softbills. |

New! Aussie Finch Forum now has a Facebook discussion group |
|
Quietly launched last month, the AFF Facebook group will (hopefully!) become a great place to share finch keeping updates and information with AFF regulars—all from the comfort of Facebook.
We've love to see some of our regular members there, so stop by and say hello :) |

Parrot corner: Keeping & breeding the Regent Parrot |
|
The regent parrot is a medium-sized parrot found in wooded subtropical regions in Australia. There is a subspecies found in Western Australia and one found in southeastern Australia. Although uncommon in aviculture, the species is hardy and well-suited to life in a large aviary. |
