Mannikins, Society Finches and Bengalese are all the same bird under another name. True Manakins are a family of softbill birds native to South America.

Are they just as easy as the bengalese to breed then? I currently provide open canary nests to my bengalese which they seem to prefer. Im thinking that these birds would prefer a nest box?

They ARE Bengalese! All of them would prefer a nest box to a canary basket. Do you have a picture of the Mannikins?

Tintola, judging by where this topic is I think we can safely say he means chestnut breasted mannikins.
Chestnuts prefer to build their own nests in brush, and certainly aren't as easy as bengos... depending on what conditions you are able to provide :)
Just to be clear, chestnut breasted mannikins are very much NOT bengalese.

 Crossed wires! I thought he was talking about Bengalese Mannikins. Nowhere in the initial posts were Chestnuts mentioned. Jayburd's got it covered. I didn't see that it was in the Chestnut section. My fault :( grovel, grovel.
