When I was breeding DBs I kept them with Star Finches as they are both peaceful shy birds and dont tolerate nest inspections....they like to build their own nests as well (same as stars) and only require normal finch diet ...only requiring live food when breeding....Others may have different ideas but I can only go on my own experiences

I would suggest getting young birds from last year, as I've found in the past that older birds tend to breed less, as for nesting sites my birds have raised young in cane finch nests, gouldian boxes and home made finch boxes made out of old fence palings, I have three pair in with saints, stars and hecks, and a pair of hooded parrots in an aviary 4.5 square.
