Has anyone out there bred a Gouldian or finch with no eyes, decided to do a nest inspection, but ended up being more shocked then surprised. It has about a week to go before they (2) leave the nest, It`s healthy, fully feathered, just feathers showing were the eyes supposed to be, I don't inter breed, so that's not the cause. The yellow split hen is from one of my best breeders and the blue cock is from Melbourne.(don't ask for breeders name). waiting to see what happens when they leave the nest, first round

Defects are just as likely to turn up in unrelated, as they are in related birds. Because they are caused by two birds carrying a faulty gene getting together. And both birds are fine if they go to other mates. And people who use selective line breeding remove lesser birds by moving them on to be someone elses outcross. Which is fine because while they may be lesser to the seller, but better than what the buyer has, so the new combination is usually good. So just seperate the parents after this round.
