Gouldian seperation

Do many breeders split up their breeding pairs of Gouldian during the non breeding season.
In fact do you separate all Gouldian when not in breeding mode.

I do once 3rd clutch is done

I remove the nest boxes only, leave pairs together.
occasionally they will have another clutch in an old doublebar/diamond nest but not often enough to trouble me.
I am far from a Gouldian expert but have bred a couple of hundred over the past 2 seasons in large communal aviaries.
I do catch out all gouldians to a holding aviary in September or so and wait for the moult to select the next years breeders.

I don't, just do a sort and minor rearrange at or about the beginning of spring.

Gouldians are one species I do separate all breeders in the off season. However, this is usually because they are one species which I rarely keep the same pair together for more than one season (unless the quality of their young is extremely outstanding). After the moult, all adult birds are closely compared in show cages to the best of the previous season's young birds in order to select the following season's breeding team.

I havent in the past but will be this year just to make sure there arent any bonds created between the molt and nests going in.

My local specialist Gouldian breeder removes all nesting boxes when breeding slows to a halt. He separates any "special" birds for the next season's breeding stock, but leaves all other pairs together in one large aviary. He has done this for decades and has excellent results. Although he has always adhered to a fairly simple diet regime, his birds always look healthy and hardy... (and breed like mice).
