yeah -the masks and longtails were in the same flock as the gouldians. all up I suppose 30 birds in total landed in a nearby bush overhanging the creek bed. the large flock of gouldiands around 20 or more first landed near a very small rocky water hole maybe a metre wide. unfortunately the wife yelled out "gouldians" and scared them off!
meanwhile the masks and longtails had flown 20 metres further on to this larger hole for their drink. what surprised me the most was how much the water had evaporated on each daily visit to the hole.
overall I'd class myself very lucky to see them in the wild. I was told several times on the trip by keen bird watchers check over here/over there-whjen I got there ...as usual nothing!
