My Emblemas build nests everywhere in my aviary out of anything, stones grass and small sticks. The weight of the nests gets very heavy when wet and sometimes they collapse. What I have found is that I offer them bark of the stringy bark gumtree. I tear in into small thin sections and they just love it. I have 15 odd pairs nesting at the moment and they are all using it. The nests are a lot stronger in construction and I have not had one collapse in over 12 months

Mine are currently nesting successfully in a nest my daughter wove of a mix of grass, grass stems, and fabric strips. It is made to the traditional aboriginal bowl design, but modified to be more gourd like, with a landing lip.

I used to use stringy bark for nest material (but haven't done so for many years). I found it was especially favoured by Ruddies, Cubans & Painteds.
