I bred one of these: https://plus.google.com/photos/11366129 ... 0126966272

Not exactly sure how I did it, but presumably it's a blend of Marked White and Silver or Dilute Blue? Is that right? Or how are they made?

I rather like him and hope to create more.

Stating right now, I am no expert on named mutations. But to my limited experience )have been breeding Zebs for over 30yrs but breed what I like together to get what i like) This looks like something I would expect to get by puting the dilute and black fronted genes together. Do you have these in your collection?

Yes, I do have black-fronted and other black genes in the flock. This bird has a normal teardrop though (not a triangle) if that means anything.

The photo in the link is the exact mutation I have. No need to resort to my bad photography skills :). So yes, it definitely has black chest, tail and teardrop markings.

I also have Silvers that are otherwise exactly like him, but with light grey chest, tail and teardrop markings, so this fella really stands out as different.

(Oddly, I also bred what would be assumed to be a Dilute Blue, but every single one of these silver-blue variant birds I believe to be descended from a single Silver male. Don't know how that works!)

Sounds like "Mr Original" could have been a split dilute, if you have had his desendants getting together.

I'd rather send them a photo :). Precious birdie, not for long journeys. Wouldn't mind going myself though. 29th this month?

I have also sent a message to the European guy who took that stunning photo in the link. I'll see if he can tell me anything.

That European guy is a Dutch zebrafinch breeder and photographer by the name of Bart Houben who resides in Swalmen in the South of Holland.
If he cannot tell you anything, nobody can.
