I obtained of my 1st softbills only 18 days ago including Turquoise Wrens & Orange Chats. One pair of Turquoises have built a nest in the last few days & have been displaying to each other with quivered wing displays, livefood & flower/leaf token offerings, courtship chases & I've seen them mating twice so it seems the real deal to me. I'm very surprised at the timing of a late March start to breeding activity for a fairy-wren though. It has been raining here most days since I got them & they came from arid origins so I'm thinking this has confused them into thinking Spring has Sprung. Others had them start to nest nowish before?

HI Tiaris, at the park (especially in 2010) the wrens bred for most of the year, there were cocks in full colour all year round. If you have had rain i reckon that spurs them on , they are a desert bird and i think they are as opportunistic as any of the species here. Good times = time to breed.

well if they do its a bonus. I still have very young wild ones around the house , but they are the normal splendids, its just been a weird year this year....Pete

I'm wondering that too. I had the bloke who bred him here for the past week & he thinks he probably will colour & stay coloured through Winter as he's seen it before - I'm certainly hoping he will as the mature male Turquoise's plumage is what won me over with them.

Beautiful looking bird as is, will be quite a sight when he gets his full plumage.
