I've lived on the north coast of NSW for 36 years, am very familiar with local birdlife and have never seen any.

Can't remember them around R'ton as a kid but Rocky is not really coastal

VP is a Hervey Bay boy, so he may be able to join a few dots

Have you seen them in the Hunter iaos?
Yep seen nesting down to Sarina, Grasstree, Lousia Creek, Koumala,Carmila,St Lawrence and all the way up north to Port Douglas (on my aunts back verandah)...other then that just flying around....wouldnt think they would nest further south then Yeppoon?

No I haven't. I don't have a copy of our local bird observers club annual report handy, but from memory there has been two records in the last 30 years.

I found an old report. "Recorded 1985-86, 2006".

It is on the NSW Orinithological Records Appraisal Committee list meaning it is a vagrant to NSW and all records are scrutinised before accepted and recorded.

Don't know what's happening . .

No sign of them for last couple of days & no building activity

This morning 2 birds at the nest, but appeared to be looking not building

On closer observation (through a flyscreen door) saw that they were both hens

Away for a couple of days so will be interesting to see progress when I return

SUNBIRD 14-12-15.jpg
Still a work in progress

Have figured out that they must work to coal-miners roster . . 2 or 3 days on / 2 or 3 days off

She has started on the nesting cavity and saw her stretching it yesterday
