I have seen Little Kingfisher well at Centenary Lakes in Cairns. And the best I've seen Azure Kingfisher was last year, from the opposite side of the stream, as it was diving for fish, Though the last one I saw was on in Mitchell Park (Western Sydney) earlier this month.

Also, Perth Zoo keeps Owlet Nightjars in their nocturnal house, I think with Bettongs of some sort.
Currumbin has had them on and off over the years but had issues sustaining them long term

That's a shame, I can't believe no one keeps them... nice forest type aviary with a streamy thing and a pond.... Then again I'm sure there's some reason as to why they aren't kept.
NRG, you're good with records, how common are azures in Canberra?
I saw a pacific golden plover at the sewerage works last week :D :D first for 32 years!!!

Well, as far as I can tell there have only been 12 records of them in the ACT and only 4 since 1990, all near Stirling... Not sure of your chances there. COG (Canberra Ornithologists Group) lists them as a "Rare non-breeding migrant"
Latest Lifer: Black-headed Gull (HaLong Bay. #528)
Australia List: 324 (White-throated Nightjar)
Global Year List: 119 (Powerful Owl)

something just occured to me.
Gerald Durrell on his trip to the african cameroons collecting wildlife to bring back to england, captured and kept several kingfishers including the shining blue, giant and (i think) pied. Shining blue is similar to an azure, and is a diver, so I wonder does anyone know what happened to those birds and/or if european zoos still keep such birds?

Thanks guys :D
Thing is sacreds are different as NRG and Danny explained to Alcedo kingfishers, though I'm not entirely sure why. As suggested I looked up holland's book and he details the keeping of an alcedo species.
Can't wait to see pics :D

Its their obsession with live fish that makes them more difficult.
