Is there anyone in australia keeping little kingfishers? zoos? parks? private collections? anyone?
Beautiful little birds my favourite australian avian love the size and colours...
Always been top of my one-day wishlist (even before blue caps), along with owlet nightjars... I expect no one keeps them (ONs) though.
Would be great to know if anyone's breeding them?
(by the way if someone here does breed them expect to be pestered continually for pictures if you admit to it!!!!! )

They'd probably be the devil to display though....
Now there's even more incentive for me to go back to Alice

Jay Ive been trying for so long to get a photo of the most gawjus little Kingfisher .
It lives along the river where I collect seed and dandelion , is very small perhaps budgie size and is metallic blues , greens like Ive not seen on a bird .
Of course it only appears when I have no camera but one day .
Ill try harder now and share it with you now I know your a fan of them too.

Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

From memory they were actually in with a mixed collection in the little aviary with the grebes and grey teal, some wrens and the numbats pen. They were quite visible as they sat at the entrance to their little hollow where you could see them. Ther's some info on them in Glen Hollands book but maybe desertbirds can give us more info on the park's animals.Jayburd wrote:really?? wow!

As far as I know, no-one keeps any of the Alcedo Kingfishers in Australia.
I have seen Little Kingfisher well at Centenary Lakes in Cairns. And the best I've seen Azure Kingfisher was last year, from the opposite side of the stream, as it was diving for fish, Though the last one I saw was on in Mitchell Park (Western Sydney) earlier this month.
Also, Perth Zoo keeps Owlet Nightjars in their nocturnal house, I think with Bettongs of some sort.
