Hi,

my cuban couple, for the second time laid eggs, had baby cubans but in the next day they are died with nothing on their stomac.
Is their any special food to give when they are feeding their chicks??

Best Regards

That is bad news. What diet were you feeding them? Mine use a lot of live food but I have heard of them raising young on soft food as well as a plain seed diet but only raise 1 chick. Green milk seed heads, greens are all going to help.

Hi,

I give a mix of seeds, cumcuber, aple, cabage, live worms, live seeds.
They eat everything, so i do not know why they do not feed them!!!

Cuban Finches are one specie that I leave well alone as I know they will readily leave their eggs or chicks if I meddle..
If I know they are nesting I just simply don't go near them.
Many many times in my aviaries (and others) I have gone out and found young Cubans on the perch and their parents were so secretive that I didn't know they were even incubating and feeding chicks.

I defiantly back E'Orix on this one, If you have been interfering they will abandon the young hence the empty crops.

If you are cabinet breeding it may take a few seasons before they are used to you walking past etc......

Hi,

They are on a cage with 1,20 X 1,50 X 0,80.
They are not alone, they are with all my Gouldians.
And yes, i agree: the mane problem is my all-time presence.
I will try to take care of them every 2 or 3 days.

How many finches in total do you have in the cage? And i find that appart from when I need to feed daily because someone else has young in the nest. I try to leave my birds in peace when they are sitting.

At total they are 6 couples: 5 of Gouldians and 1 of Cuban.
In this fase, i have all Gouldians together because i want them to shose a partener between them. When i see their is a couple, i will pick them up to a smaller cage (0,7 X 0,5 X 0,5) and will try to let them breed for their own.
In the end, the Cubans will stay alone.
If i have babys, i can take care of them every 2 days.
