hi,

i was thinking about getting a pair of cubans, but i have gotten a lot of conflicting information regarding their aggressiveness. i suspect it comes down to individual birds but thought i'd ask the forums consensus.

do you think cubans will mix well with the following?

red-cheeked cordons
ruddies
orange-breasts
saints
strawbs

dont even think about putting them in with rccb . u will have dead rccb in no time flat. they will tolerate a lot of differnt birds but the best thing is not to give them a chance to show of there fighting ability...they may get along and seem calm enough but it just not worth any thing blue......pete

When I first built my Aviaries I housed a pr of the following Cubans orange breast rccb and bf parrot finches. They laid there first nest and as soon as the eggs hatched the cock Cuban killed the orange breasts and rccb.

Without a doubt the most aggressive finch I have kept

I caught him as he killed the last orange breast and he was like a Lion in a Rage

I guess you need to be real wary of how and who you house them with

I have my Cubans with, orange breasteds, St. Helenas, Ruddies, Gouldians, Painteds, Canaries, Javas, Zebras, and Quail. No problems, and this is the 2nd cock in the same situation.
Think it depends on the personality of the individual bird and a large selection of nests, well spaced apart.

I've had one with all but the strawbs and saints (though i'll be getting the latter soon, touch wood!) and no probs.

I was looking after the bird for a friend.

just an update for those interested, i got the cubans a couple of months back and they are currently co-habituating with my ruddies, OB's, cordons, saints and goulds. i have seen virtually no aggression from the cubans at all.
