honestly. ...what are the odds

You may recall my recent luck with goldfinches. Before the eggs hatched the hen abandoned the nest and started building a new one. I moved the eggs under a canary and long story short the canary laid 2 more eggs late in the piece killing the young goldfinch.

Using logic I decided to swap the eggs over from the start. The result is my goldfinches are raising 3 canaries in an aviary and the canary has left the goldfinch eggs to go cold.....they were due to hatch tomorrow.

If the goldfinches go for round 3 then that is great but im keeping well away. For a trapped hen the goldfinch is not shy and an excellent mother.
Its funny how I got the same result with 2 different methods.

Oh well here's to learning. .

I have read a similar story with white-headed pigeons and wompoo pigeons. Both species are priceless, white-headeds - you can barely give them away and wompoos - good luck finding one for sale. You guessed it the wompoos raised the white-headeds.

Cheers Ian

Murphys law. I hope you have more success of the kind you want next time round.
