Well definately wasn't anting or sun bathing.... Hen flew down to waterfall followed within a few seconds by cock bird...almost straight away he started same thing as other day...with a slight variation of lifting one wing then the other (still flapping each wing extremely fast) then quickly tried to mount hen bird... then they both flew off into the shrubbery..

only kidding. But on a serious note, get a video camera and have it handy in case it happens again. Lots of birds have yet to be filmed going through their displays. You would be adding important information/ footage for the species

There are often alien actions occurring with regard our birds.
As they became more domesticated their actions changed simply by copying other species.
So maybe mating displays can change as well.
Birds evolved, I wrote an article on breeding Napoleon Weavers back in 1982(approx.)
If you read it today and compare Napoleon Weaver habits now you would think
that I never bred them, they have evolved so much since then.
The same applies at my water feature, in the wild Aust. species prefer to drink and bath at the waters
edge if there is not an animal foot print to drink from, same appliers to African Waxbills.
The fear of predators is probably the reason. Yet European and Asiatic species have no fear of water and
and plunge in. Today in my aviary all species do not hesitate to plunge in, the only except is generally young
birds and they just on the edge and hope to get splashed. I guess it was hot and they thought if they can do
it so can all of us.

Makes sence EO. In the wild a wet bird is a vulnerble bird. In avairys they have no predators. My gouldians love to get soggy.

Well I have seen the same moves a few times but I am never quick enough to get camera going...might have to invest in a few motion cameras one day soon...
