I saw a red faced allyto (pucilla ) today and am in love ....what a awesome looking bird . The female was stolen out of the display cage and the remaining male was $100
Out of my league but so glad I have seen one up close.

yes the red headed pytillias are such a nice bird the yellow winged pytillias are even nicer i think. cant believe someone stole the hen they must of realy needed a hen.
$100 for a male is a bit steep i think unless it was a really brightly coloured male with really strong red face

He is a very striking bird but I think that them being a rarity in these parts is what hiked the price up .

Best way would be to start a topic under the header " breeding Pytillas " or similar , that way you will get more answers .....

Which one did you see Jusdeb - the one with yellow wings or the one with red wings like an Aurora??

At the risk of being hammered the Yellow winged red headed pytilia is the species and the red wing red headed one is actually a hybrid at worst and a sub species at best - virtually unknown outside of Oz.

One of the most stunning finches there is but with beauty there comes a price they are up there with the Blue-cap as regards "troublesome" species!!!!

Have bred a few this year so it can be done without termites.............you obviously have an eye for beauty in the finch world...............as a nice cock yellow winged Pytilia in the sun.............nuffin better!!

how 'bout a violet eared waxbill or a blue cap in the morning sun? :D

and I DON'T want to start a debate, but I am sorry to say I disagree - I think the RF RW pytilia is a separate species, a subspecies at worst, though I can understand a hybrid theory. isn't there a DNA test or something we could do to determine it once and for all???
