Well today i purchased my new finches,as some people know is was thinking of going to the next level of finches.I planed to get a pair of Painteds but could not get any around Newcastle.
I have been reading up on Painteds,Stars and Ruddies for a while.
So i know i have done the right thing in getting Ruddies.
I got them from a breeder in my area he gave my lots of advice and showed me how to make a nest for the Ruddies. He even said if i need mealworms just ask him.
His set up was unreal but said not to tell anyone.
I have the in my Cabinet

Here are some pics

Have you seen the pied Ruddies ? Very nice too.
Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

You made the right choice if you couldn't get Painteds...Stars would of been much harder to breed then Ruddies or Painteds...Good Luck with them

Good work Harv, they're great little birds. Make sure you give them heaps of white feathers, they use more than any other finch I've kept!

Very nice ruddies Harvey, love my pair, just be careful with the hen and cold as the hens can sometimes be soft about the cold and in that case a heat source maybe required.

They look stunning Harvey :D :D
I haven't had them for a few years, but they're really excellent finches. Best of luck!!!

Harv is very exited about his new finches.
We where going to have them in the avairy but as people have said the hens are not hardy in the cold so they will be cabinet birds over winter.
What is the breeding season for this finch.???

Thanks for replys
