Maybe I've got a few like that. Both my pairs have had a few nests lately with no success. Maybe I should catch them up and put them on short rations.
Is it sufficient to starve just the cocks?

I recently bought a couple just like that. They are currently being fed nothing except red, white and gap millet. Get rid of the canary seed from their diet.

Hey mate, I know what you mean about the canary seed. At times I think its the only seed they eat. It will be interesting to see long it will take to get the weight off.

I was just thinking some of my birds look a bit on the big side. ImageI emptied all the treat seed left in the cups into the chicken run yesterday.
Finches are on a diet.

You could also try flying them in a larger aviary-if you have that luxury-and add some extra cocks to stir them up a bit- all under supervision, of course!!

Three weeks on, has managed to drop a lot of the fat fairly quickly... still a bit through his chest. Basically put them on a mix with not much canary in it and no extras at all.
