How about Senegals, Meyers Jardines etc.. Although some of these can be considered loud and the price is getting a little up there

Parrott finches sounds like the go, reasonably priced, tough, only partialy insectiverous, neither very common or very rare, quiet.

Are Indian Ringnecks too generic?

You could always specialise in certain colours.
