The hen Eastern ended up cinnamon red, still a nice looking bird.
Kakariki hen stopped feeding red wing when voice changed and pin feathers started to open, hand raising it now, going strong.

While handling them has advantages, and in the case in question was a necessity. I prefer them to be birds as much as possible and humans with feathers as little as possible. They seem to breed better then and be less agressive to humans. Dad was a cocky and parrott breeder specialist.

I agree and only hand raise when necessary, as in this case. . I don't constantly handle them once independent unless they are going to be purely a hand pet. This Red wing is quite but not hand tame so can still be used for breeding. My oldies bred with a hand raised Eastern rosella hen for 24 yrs, was a great breeder and not aggressive at all. I have seen some very aggressive hand raised birds to their owners generally cock birds . Except in the case of Eclectus when hand raised hens are super aggressive whilst the cocks are ok. My Red wing cock bird the father to this one was also hand raised but not handled when independent and he is fine for aggression.
