G'day everyone
Saw this ad on Petlink for Plum headed parrots and in the image they are in with finches: https://www.petlink.com.au/Classifieds/ ... 28231.html
Are they ok with finches, they are very lovely birds I wouldn't mind a pair or 2
I have briefly heard they are OK with finches, but I would like a definite answer
Thanks
Noah Till

I'm not sure, but aren't they related to Ringnecks and Alexandrine's?

Aviculture hub says they are, but I'm not very sure. (https://www.aviculturehub.com.au/what-p ... h-finches/)

They are just a bit bigger than a Turqoisine Parrot from what I remember seeing them last Aidan
I had a pair of Blue Indian Ringnecks for a week, before I took them back for obvious reasons, thankfully before I really got into finches
Thanks

Unless my memory is playing me false, Plumheads are a slightly bigger close relative of the Indian Ringneck Parrott. Again from memory, I think they are a little more passive in nature. I observe in the pic shown that there is a "ball" nest made of 2 joined together hanging baskets, this would probably be parrott proof. But I would definately not be mixing the birds shown in the pic if I owned them.

FB, there were Plumb heads at the local pet store around 3 weeks ago and they were almost half the size of an Indian Ringneck
I think that "ball" is just something to hold the grasses in for the finches nesting material, its too sparsely filled to be for nesting

I have owned - bred Plumheaded parrots and i wouldn't put them in with finches of any description.

That ball would be good for stuffing with melaleuca brush.

Also, the Indian Ringneck is 9cm larger than the Plum-Headed Parrot according to ‘A Guide to Asiatic Parrots’ by ABK. You’d need a big aviary to house them with finches though.

It is some years since I saw them together - hence my memory reference. The ball would be a good way of providing nesting location, with the addition of a bit more "internal framework" plants.

Yes, OK I will not put them with any finches
How would they go with Ringneck doves and King Quail?
Thanks

Plumhead parrots are the most gentle parrot and can and have been placed with finches. They are one of the least aggressive parrots, very gentle in fact .. I would personally trust a Plumhead parrot with finches. That's just me though...
