something odd

the first time I saw this bird I couldn't believe what I was seeing. has anyone seen air under the skin before like this, its on a coloured bird.

Hi Vince,
Its all good, nothing to write home about, we all have come across it at one time or another,
I have never known it to be fatal, the youngster will sort it by him/herself, just dont interfere by trying to squeeze the air out of its crop.

Had the same sort of thing in a young gouldian this year,the bird died at about 10 days,first time i had ever seen it ,garyh

Have seen young budgies with air filled crops, they died or did not florish. Not seen it in finches, but I don't do much in the way of nest inspections.
