As you would have seen we have a new webmaster, Wishes.

We would like to thank Cranberry for all his help while we were in the process of transferring the forum and for the many other tasks he did for us in moving the forum forward.
We certainly couldn't have done it without him.
Thanks Cranberry!

I'll add my thanks there too. He was there when we needed him and I'm sure he'll still check in on us even if only as a convert to finch keeping.

Good on all the webmasters who have been involved in making this such a great forum. Ditto to owners.

Could someone please explain to me why you have restricted access to the newsletter only to people who have made 5 or more posts. Surely the purpose of a newsletter should be to introduce the hobby to newcomers.

To try to get people to come out of the shadows and get involved in the Forum.

Quite a bit of the forum is open to all to view and we had hoped that the amount visible and the information that more is there for viewing after the required posts have been made would be enough to encourage people to join and contribute to the general forum.
Our posting requirements are far less than some forums require.
As the newsletter sometimes contains articles with details and pictures of members aviaries we felt it was prudent to keep the newsletter to those who had already been involved in the forum.

I can understand and appreciate those responses.
However, I would suggest that quality is far more important than quantity and the problem that I see with many forums is that a presents an opportunity for people with little knowledge and no scientific basis to get on their soapbox and spruik.
I find that with most forums (and I am not referring to this one as I have not delved into it) you have to wade through lots of garbage to find an occasional gem.
WRT the concerns of restricting access to images of members aviaries then I would suggest that a novice enthusiast is unlikely to have a clue who the aviaries belong to or where they are-that is far more likely to be known by a more experienced or active member, security is perhaps better addressed in other ways.
