The QFS will once again be holding it's finch auction on Sunday 11th September 2011

VENUE: Morningside School Of Arts Hall, corner of Wynnum & Thynne Roads, Morningside, Brisbane.

Viewing is 9 to 10am and the Auction starts at 10am until complete (about 1pm) last year there was 306 lots and they normaly limit it to about this number.
They close the viewing area off at 10am while the auction is in progress so you need to be there before 10am to view the birds, last year the viewing area was packed with viewers so give yourself time to view, they do how ever set up a camera and show each lot on a big screen as it's being auctioned, so you can be sure you are bidding on the correct lot.

All lots are sold with their box and the box can be returned clean to the QFS for a $7 refund.

There is also a QFS and Australian widlife supplies table on the day.

As a guide these were the prices paid last year.

Only birds sold as pairs included. Price range from cheapest to most expensive on the day.

Well all that was quite a different type of sale I attended today. Was as already mentioned a auction with over 300 lots up for sale.It was a smaller sale in size that Victorians would be used of going to about the size of our smaller country ones, although remember that 99% of the birds up for auction were finches,So that would take it up very much nearer to some of vics bigger ones, if not surpassing some if your talking apples for apples. It was well ran by all involved.First all buyers were allowed viewing of the birds until 10 am the area was cleared and the auction was started, after the guidelines were given out.The auction was done via video camera on a tv while we all sat there in the hall, with the finches off to one side.I sat and watched for the first 50 or so pr of birds to go under the hammer. Then decided that sitting there drooling at some of the prices the birds were going for, was not doing my ego any good.So I decided to catch up with a few people. Was good to have a yarn with Serena from wildlife supplies also Danny Garry and Fred.I will have some photos to share later when I am able to upload some photos, you will see some of the stranger things for sale to us southerners like live termite nests.

below is a few of the prices i heard they may have gone either up or down as the sale progressed.maybe someone else who was there can fill in the blanks.

Hi Gomer!

It was great to meet you and I am glad you enjoyed the day!

Crimson finches went for...1 pr x $105.00, and another for $160.00 (book price up here is $250+) - oh, if only I still had my Aussie bird license...oh well lol

BTW I was able to spot Gomer in the crowd due to his fantastic (self funded and created I believe) Aussie Finch Forum shirt, complete with his user name (Gomer) on the back in large letters - that's how I spotted him! Great looking shirt, and a top way to identify other forum members at social gatherings.

Cheers

Danny
