A question mark at the end wouldn't hurt either - it is asking a question.Tintola wrote:New banner does look good, BUT, (there is always a but) Sorry to be a pedantic pain the armpit, but the apostrophe in member's is in the wrong place, could you put it after the 's' denoting that there is more than one member. If it had been another Finch Forum that only has one member, it would read member's, but for our forum, with so many members it should read members'. Hope Greg is happy now!

My turn!
I'm no grammar guru - so phrased as questions rather than statements of fact.
1. Should it be "finches or softbills"? The use of "and" means only those who are lovers of both are welcome - "or" encompasses either and both.
2. Is a comma (or perhaps a semicolon) required before such as?
3. Should it be monthly newsletters (plural)?
4. Should there be an apostrophe after species?
5. Why does G'day have a capital?
But honestly, the banner is fine as it is.

I was referring to the banner but now you bring it to my attention, your statement could have used one as well.Tintola wrote: ? Happy now ? [/color]

i think one could argue the word "or" could also be interpreted the same - as implying that it is only welcomes finch lovers or softbill lovers, but not lovers of both. both ways work fine, but "and" sounds best. ;)SamDavis wrote:My turn!

I'll have to send a link to this thread to some of my old English teacher mates. They wont believe it! Mind you, I suspect they'd find a few more errors.Tintola wrote:You can be president of the A.R.C.

I agree "and" sounds better. I'm a Maths nerd, so I instinctively think of "and" and "or" in the logical (Boolean) sense. Or a compromise - what about "and/or"?toothlessjaws wrote:i think one could argue the word "or" could also be interpreted the same - as implying that it is only welcomes finch lovers or softbill lovers, but not lovers of both. both ways work fine, but "and" sounds best. ;)

this post just keeps going on and on and on and ...... blah can we find something else to pick on preferably something that doesn't resemble forum members ability to write correctly or put a home page together
