I know I'm a terrible speller but I correct myself when I can. There is something that has been bugging me for a while - I've notice there are a number of posts and even an AFF banner advert that incorrectly refer to species in the singular as a "specie". The plural of species is species in the same way that "fish" is both singular and plural. Can these be corrected when noticed?

Greg,
You've started something now!!
My pet hate is around lorikeets.
They are either Lories or Lorikeets. There isn't such a thing as a lori ( despite Vetafarm's advertising)- it is Lory. And the plural is lories.
And all the Australian species are lorikeets, despite the Aussie obsession with shortening everything to lories.

While you're in a correcting mood, the banner shouldn't have an apostrophe in photos but it should have one after members.
Apostrophes in the wrong place can change the meaning dramatically. Commas too.

my pet hate is when people refer to a species as "a breed". a breed is a human-developed variety of a given species - not a species in its own right.
likewise a cringe when a subspecies is referred to as "a species". a subspecies is a race of a given species and is also not a species in its own right.

Don't get me started!!! Again Not that this is a competition or nuffin, but
Might I add that some of my pet hates are the misspelling of the words.....
There...... as in 'over there' indicating a place. Can be replaced with 'here'
Their...... as in ownership... Their birds or their house. can be replaced with 'our'
They're..... as in an abbreviation of "They are" The apostrophe indicates that at least one letter has been left out.
To ....preposition indicating direction
Too...meaning 'as well as ' (We are going too) or an 'excess' (Too many birds)
Two... The number between 1 and 3.
It saves people having to backtrack to get the gist of the post.
Eney way Oim gunna sine orf now, Had me say!
