Maybe an upside to the new tax and the offsets that i hadnt thought about, looks like a few manufacturing companies may invest in "big stations" . Some of these properties could be de-stocked and re-generated to create carbon credits . How nice that would be ???

IF it did happen , it would be great as some of the wild life would return back to the way it was before pasteralization, also as long as they take the ferals with them when they go....pete

I'm so glad there are others that can see the upside. For the correct management of the land traditional Aboriginal pactices will have to be reinstated and what a wonderful and meaningful way to solve the unemploymnet and social problems in remote communities.

Normal Aboriginal practices are ok if they stick to their traditional methods ie no Alum.boats and rifles etc.
Also their habit of burning the growth was acceptable when they roamed the vast areas but when they are restricted, the burning has a major
effect on wild life.
The burning of the older grasses by the Aborigines and the Cattle Station staff is one of the major reasons for the decline of the Gouldian as some of the grasses only seed every second year. No seeds no Gouldians. The fire also destroys the hollows,no nesting sites no young Gouldians,
The Gouldians are far more specialised than the LongTails who seem to cope.
As for supporting the Carbon tax, maybe I am putting my head in the sand but if the majority of other countries don't give a rats then why should we worry
with our token action. Why put more pressure on our industry and people when the biggest polluter the MOTOR CAR is left out of the picture.
By the way Greg how interested are the people of the Phillipines with regard pollution, most likely like the majority of all other Asian countries.
Couldn't care less most likely.

i think sadly most people feel the same way as you. and i have to be brutally honest, i find it a disgrace that not even a country such as ours that got through the GFC unscathed and contributes such outrageously high per capita emissions - has people that unwilling to take a leadership role on tackling this issue. australians on the whole have a bloody easy life. and we have become nothing short of disgustingly spoilt, lazy, selfish little brats.

because you have to start somewhere. and because with fuel prices already high due to peak oil already upon us - if a government added additional taxes on fuel you know as well as well as i do they would be decimated at the next election. starting with industry is much more digestible for the uninspired palette of everyday australia.

I for one think it's a good thing, or at least better than nothing. Just because nobody else gives a rats, doesn't mean we shouldn't!! Europe have been contributing to the environment through sustainability in many ways that nobody here is aware of, which put us to even further shame.

Also, this tax is going to affect the average household by adding what, 0.7% to the cost of living? Does anybody remember that thing called the GST?!?! This increase is NOTHING, and people seem to have forgotten about the GST altogether, which was a comparatively ENORMOUS increase to the cost of living... Small price to pay I reckon.

Would be great to see land rejuvenated back to its origins.Maybe we can help save some of the native flora and fauna,But we cant do anything about a expanding population around the world.I suppose the current rate of pollution can be maintained for a while. But if they are to have a real go we need base load power nuclear, hydro and geothermal power all of which the greens are against ??? I dont mind myself paying extra taxes for funding these, but i need to have a job to pay the taxes. Also every house hold must be worse off for it to have any effect.

Sorry to throw a spanna in the works ( no pun intended ) But I can’t remember the government getting to many projects come in on budget or on time so I don’t have much faith in there 0.7% rise in the cost of living because of a carbon tax. At least we knew 10% gst was set at that and could accurately work the cost rises.Apart from that I have no problem with taxing big polluters but the rest of the world has to do the same.
