Hi Tim,

Welcome to the Aussie finch forum

Gouldians are quite ok to start off with, they surprisingly don't need to much heat as to what people may think but I will definitely stress they must have total protection from winter elements with no cold winds and drafts which to be fair should be the same for all birds,
There is loads of information regarding gouldians on this forum and would be very wise to do some research and study at least the basics of Gouldian husbandry before attempting to breed, there's also some very good specialist Gouldian sites on the Internet that are also worth studying

Zebras and bengalese would also be another wise choice of birds to start of with probably even more so than the Gouldians,

Be lucky

Welcome to the forum. What Stuart said is good advice. Also when you research give creadance to the location of the setup you are looking at. Big differences sometimes in how the temp and wind in different parts will affect different set ups. Also consider how much space you can devote to our addiction/hobby. Enjoy.

Have to agree that space and specific location set up can make a fair bit of difference in what one decides to do and also keep

WELCOME to the AFF Tim.... enjoy the forum and your new hobby. Researching is certainly a smart start, as is starting small and expanding as your knowledge and experience increases. This can save a lot of disappointment and money by eliminating otherwise predictable set backs. Ask questions if you are unsure of anything ... there are many experienced people here....and above all, GOOD LUCK.
