LML
Hi, yes I have 2 small aviaries (1.5mx1.5m) and 1 medium size aviary (2.6mx1.5m). Unfortunately they aren't assembled yet. I also have another aviary (3mx2m) that I was thinking of turfing the chooks out of.

CathyCraftz wrote: 14 Jun 2018, 17:42 Hi Gordon, welcome to the Aussie Finch Forum. If you are restarting it is best to go with zebra finches again first because they are hardy and breed well. They also don't have to eat live food like meal worms so that's an added bonus. Second choice is society finches but they are difficult to sex. Gouldians are very sensitive and is most likely to get air sac mites. They also moult every year so might not want to start with those.
Have a nice winter!
Hi Cathy,
Thanks for the advice, but I had Parrot finches, Stars, Double Bars, Long tails and Masked finches when I was younger so I'd like to get one or more of those species. Only problem is it's a lot colder here at Young then when I had finches in Sydney.

Hi Gordon,

I returned last year after a 10 year hiatus. Glad to hear you've returned too. Things have certainly changed as you will learn, I only have praise for the additional experiences this forum brings.

Sounds like you are planning right, with having avairys ready to put together and an idea of what you want to start with.

Yeah, ultimately I'd like to build a huge planted aviary to breed in and would use the smaller aviaries to hold the young ones that I breed.
