Gouldian finches are endangered in the wild but their colour variants are common in captivity. However, true strains of natural colours are rare in captivity.

Star Finches are common in captivity but most have been mixed up and have ancestors that are from both sub species. Again, pure strains of the different sub species are rare in captivity and some are becoming scarce in the wild.

Crimson Finches are not that common in captivity but that is most likely due to their slightly aggressive nature.

Parson Finches are common but one of the sub species is rare in captivity and threatened with extinction in the wild.

Button Quails are uncommon in captivity.

Pure strains of more commonly kept birds are becoming rare due to people wanting the more unusual colour variants. This is putting original colour forms at risk in captivity and there will a time in the near future where most birds are like budgies and come in all sorts of colours but none will resemble their wild ancestors.

Do you mean birds that are rare in the wild, or birds that are rare in captivity?

The ones people don't tell anyone they have because they are rare and valuable. Sorry warped sence of humour, but mostly true. Welcome to the forum.

Its not much good selling rarer finches to dealers as they will most likely end up dying due to inexperienced breeders, i know this is happening in melbourne which is a shame,
