Hi forum members,

I wanted to introduce myself, I am Holabee and I live in Goulburn NSW. I have kept finches on and off since I was a little girl. I started with Zebra Finches, but have also kept Java Finches, Stars, Double Barred, Parsons, European Goldfinch, St Helens and Cut troats. All at various times on and off. I just adore finches and I could spend hours outside with them. I have had my current aviary only 3 years, and I am still perfecting the environment, I am hoping to insulate the roof this year, and I am looking at advice on how to best do that for both hot and cold climates as we get both here in Goulburn.

Looking forward to chat!

Hi Holabee, welcome to the forum.

There's some good prior discussion on aviary roof insulation in the Housing Finches forum. It might be buried a bit though, so don't hesitate to start a new topic with your questions :)

Welcome to the forum from another lady finchkeeper. What types of finches are you keeping at the moment?

Hi Nat amd Glenn, I am very interested to know how you insulated the Aviary, what materials you used?

Finchbreeder- I'm currently keeping Doubled-barred, St Helena, Star Finches, Parsons Finch and one pair of European Goldfinches.

Sounds like a good mix. How big is the avairy" This may also help with the best materials to use for insulation. e.g. sheets of or whatever.

The aviary is about 3mx2mx2m part of it is steel for protection then then it comes out with an exposed flight. So the enclosed part has full roof, back and sides. My main concern is the roof, and I wanted to add an extra layer, with maybe some sort of material between for insulation? It can get very hot here in summer and very cold in winter. I tried to upload pic of it, but it keeps saying too large even though I resized it...
