I'm from Belgium and I'm a Star finch breeder in spé. I want to hold separate couples in a single breeding cage. Red and yellow/orange heads mixed. My cages will be 120x40x45. I will start with 2 couples and see ho it goes. In the past I didnt have success with this finches. Maybe I didnt had good couples. They building nests but didnt lay eggs. Greetz, Jo

Welcome to the forum. I never had any luck with these birds when I had them many years ago either. But there are people on here with the knowledge and skills to answer any questions you have about them.

I quit on Star finches too. I think mine struggled because my aviary was always overcrowded in spring (with Gouldian chicks), and they seem to like privacy and quiet. Might give them another shot one of these days, now that I have an aviary for young Gouldians to colour up in.I never had any luck with these birds when I had them many years ago either.
