Hello everyone,
I’m Anthony from Newcastle, NSW and my new aviary arrives in just under 2 weeks. Very excited. I kept Zebra finches when I was younger and will be keeping them again. The new aviary is 3.5 x 2.4 x 1.8 and is on an existing concrete slab. Any suggestions for potted plants etc that will do well in the space?
Thanks
Anthony

Welcome to the forum. The only potted plants my Zebs like are seeding grasses grown from birdseed. Fountain grass goes down well with some finches. Don't know if it is OK as a pot plant in your part of Aus.

Hi and welcome to the forum
Bottlebrush, small species of Eucalypts, wattles, and bird seed all do well in 30cm pots and can be kept in the aviary. Bird seed in pots will provide grass for their nests and green grass seeds to stimulate breeding. If the plants get messed up, you can move the pots out and give the plants time to recover before putting them back in the aviary.
Make sure you have at least 1 nest for every pair of birds and hang the nests at the same height.

Thanks for the advice. We have a fantastic native nursery close by. I’ll check out what they have this weekend.

Make that one more nest than you have pairs of birds. So every lady can have a choice.
