Hi - i'm planning on keeping gouldian finches (have none yet, still researching). The colors of the wild type really caught my eye.

Can anybody point me in the right direction where I can read more on the different color mutations in gouldians? It's really confusing. The more i research the more I get confused. Just as an example are the yellow mutations. I've read that there is a basic yellow recessive mutation but then I saw there are also European yellow, Australian Yellow and Lutino. I'm not sure if some of them are the same and just called differently. So if you can recommend a site/book/blog anything that could help explain the different mutations that would be great.

BTW - I used to breed and race pigeons and was also interested in their different color mutations.

Hi, welcome to the forum. The best breakdown of the different Gouldian colour mutations is this website.

Thanks Shane for the link.

Hi Misso - I'm in west side, near Werribee. That's really great. I'll reach out to you once I have everything set-up.

Welcome to the forum. How many avairies are you building? There is quite a lot on this forum about the ideal avairy for Gouldians.

Thanks! Just one for now. Once I get the hang of it then I would consider building a bigger aviary.

Odds are, once you get the hang of it you will build a 2nd avairy, then a 3rd. It is adictive, but in the best possible way. Enjoy.
