Good topic by WildBill last year, thought I would get it going for this year.

Been a reasonable start. Already got some young saints, pied ruddies, silverbills and crimsons and have goulds + BFPF on the nest atm. Got some young pairs of Gouldians that I expect to kick into gear around March... this will be my last season with Gouldians though. Strawbs and redbrows haven't done a heap yet so I'm re designing their aviary atm. Good luck everyone!

I have just had first fledglings and have about another 30 young in nests, might be a good season.

I just put the boxes in and the hens have already laid in most.

Im only running 10 pair this year compared to the 18 of last year That yielded over 60 young ( not that good)

Most of their beaks aren't fully black yet.

Put mine out a few weeks ago (earlier than the usual mid-Feb) as they seemed very ready in the holding aviaries with much crowing, dancing & generally jumping out of their skin with activity but most pairs now in the breeding aviaries have just continued to chase around & not nested yet. Only a couple of pairs just laying now. Hopeful of a better year than last with only around 40 young bred from 14 pairs compared to 85 from 7 pairs the year before. Tried some 3pr colonies last year with very poor results. 3 colonies of 3pr each & none produced more than the average number from my single pairs. Back to 8 single pairs again this time & sworn off colonies - again (until next time I try it in another 10-12 years). Don't Gouldians just look awesome at this time year though?
