Hi, my goldfinches have just hatched 3 young, was hoping for some feeding tips - they are currently getting lettuce, spinach, cucumber, soaked seed, mealworms and fresh milk seed daily. Anything else needed?
Thanks

I am sure my birds would love that diet.
It sounds fine to me.

One thing I forgot.

Dandelion heads and the leaves of the weed.

There should be a lot out now and will be for a while.

Hi again, thanks for the tips; unfortunately, the 3 young only lasted a couple of days - same happened last clutch a month or so ago. Any ideas why? Not sure how old the pair are, I bought them from a breeder at the last Bundy sale in October.

In an aviary they are one of the hardest of the European Finches to breed yet in a breeding cage they seem to do better.
They are a beautiful specie but are basically ignored because of their low value which is a shame.

Maybe some eggfood/egg& biscuit mix for protein as they may not take mealworms & need high protein in the early stages after hatching.
