I have my first pair of Gouldians. They are preparing 2 nests at the same time in separate boxes. Is this typical?

Are you sure they didn't start one, then go to the other?

At least with Gouldians you should not have the problem of 2 birds of the same sex. Though apparently it does happen occasionally with very dull cocks and/or very bright hens.

They are definitely building 2 at the same time.

They can be strange at times

I had a pair nest in an open stainless steel cup. Fostered eggs out, they turned out to be duds anyway, and put a nest box in the same location - nothing.

That made it two pairs in the aviary with 5 nests ...

They went to another D cup feeder and started nesting there again ..... disaster waiting to happen as front of aviary and any time anyone walked past they'd fly off.

Replaced the feeders with feeding stations and placed a cane finch nest in there too .... I think I finally have them going in that.

Strange from two birds bred in wooden boxes themselves lol
