How can I tell if an Australian Yellow Gouldian is ready to breed. Her beak is red, and she is not taking any interest in the male. I know female Gouldians beaks go black when ready, but how about the Australian Yellow?

When she is ready she will lay..if all conditions are right it will happen...unlike Dogs or cats etc you cant make finches go to nest... easy part is getting them to lay..hard part is young on perch

Its still a little early for most hens to be fully ready to breed. Another few weeks should bring most of them into breeding mode.

Supplying greens can help to tip the scales towards accepting the male, as he tells her how good he is cause "look what I found for you honey".

If the female Aus yellow is in breeding condition? The tip of the beak would be a bright red and would gradually reduce to a more pinkish colour towards the nose (?)
I'm only basing this off my Australian yellow hen who laid four infertile eggs, and would upload a picture but files too large - hopefully I can resolve this and post it on here!
