Not necessarily, my Gouldians were much more of a ‘pet’ than an aviary bird when I first had them in a cage, and then I became more focused on breeding them and bought an aviary + more birds. Unfortunately didn’t have a rat wall on the aviary, so....

I know that problem well, being surrounded on 3 sides by bush that some lazy locals use as a tip. But for many years had a Jack Russell so they didn't get past her. Need to be very vigalant against Rodents regardless of which finches we keep.

If you want numbers or your birds in a more natural setting, aviaries are the way to go
If you want to breed showbirds, cages are the way to go
Thanks

I agree with that. Unfortunately, cabinet breeding and cage breeding is becoming increasingly popular due to smaller blocks of hand and apartments.

Canaries, budgies and lovebirds seem to be best suited to cabinet breeding. But a 500mmH x 500mmD x 2mtr long cage is suitable for a number of finches provided you stick to a pair each of 2 compatable types.
